I tried FreeBSD base/head with only an IPv6 address configured on the NIC. While installing some ports, I soon ran into the problem of living in more or less total isolation.

The following files were transferred from /usr/ports/distfiles on a computer with both IPv4 and IPv6 connections:

  • pkgconf-0.9.4.tar.bz2
  • python/setuptools-2.0.1.tar.gz
  • python/Python-2.7.6.tar.xz
  • lsof_4.88E.freebsd.tar.bz2
  • mc-4.8.11.tar.xz
  • pcre-8.34.tar.bz2
  • libpng-1.5.18.tar.xz
  • libpng-1.5.18-apng.patch.gz
  • cmake-2.8.12.1.tar.gz
  • icu4c-52_1-src.tgz

These were the ports I attempted to and eventually succeeded in installing:

  • ports-mgmt/pkg
  • ports-mgmt/dialog4ports
  • shells/bash
  • sysutils/screen
  • sysutils/htop
  • devel/subversion
  • sysutils/xe-guest-utilities
  • misc/mc
