Upgrading to ASUS ROG Strix X299-E GAMING II BIOS 1004 was almost successful. The already installed FreeBSD/amd64 13.0-STABLE wouldn’t boot propertly and froze when attempting to initialise the keyboard.

Booting the GENERIC kernel from the latest 13.0-STABLE snapshot, froze when attempting initialise a Mellanox driver. This time a proper error message appeared. I didn’t record the details, but I remember something about a breakpoint interrupt already in use.

I tried to load optimized defaults and I tried to boot the installed system, but to no avail. I reverted to the previous BIOS 0702 and order was restored.

I’ll later try the intermediary version, BIOS 0901, and I’ll try to record the details if unsuccessful.
