Windows Update in Windows Server 2022 throws error 0x8024401c

Windows Update in one of our Windows member servers running Windows Server 2022 threw error 0x8024401c after ingesting KB5070884.

Googling for “windows server 2022 windows update error 0x8024401c” suggested the first three steps:

  1. Run net stop wuauserv.
  2. Delete the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.
  3. Run net start wuauserv.
  4. Make the Windows Update client connect to the WSUS service.
  5. Run wuauclt /detectnow /reportnow.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the WSUS console shows a green status for the member server.

I also rebooted the WSUS server, and maybe that had a hand in clearing this mess.
